Iași Left Without Hot Water for a Week — Impact on Vulnerable Seniors
Modernisation works on Iași's district heating system will leave the city without hot water for 6 days, with elderly residents expected to be among those most severely affected.

The city of Iași will experience a complete suspension of hot water supply for six days, between 18 and 24 May 2026, as part of a major upgrade to the district heating network. This will have a particular impact on older residents, who are more vulnerable to changes in thermal comfort.
The works form part of the thermal network rehabilitation project — Phase III — and involve replacing ageing pipework on the T10 main trunk line within the CET Iași (combined heat and power plant) complex. Local authorities maintain that this large-scale technical intervention is essential to improving system efficiency and ensuring the long-term reliability of heat supply.
For older residents of Iași, this interruption may create significant difficulties in maintaining personal hygiene and a comfortable home environment. Elderly people — particularly those with limited mobility or chronic conditions — are more sensitive to the absence of hot water and may need to seek alternative arrangements during this period.
During the works, a temporary network will be constructed to allow the upgraded installations to be connected subsequently without causing a prolonged complete shutdown of the system. Technical teams will work intensively to decommission the worn pipework and install new, high-performance replacements.
Iași City Hall justifies the interruption by citing the need to prevent major breakdowns during the cold season and to reduce energy losses across the network. While acknowledging that the disruption will be difficult, the authorities regard this phase as unavoidable in order to complete the modernisation works in accordance with the execution contract.
