Emergency Medical Transport for Patients with Severe Burns to Specialised Centres in Belgium

A complex medical operation took place over the weekend to save two patients with severe burns, who required highly specialised medical care available only at certain European centres.

The medical transfer was carried out aboard a military aircraft specially configured for complex emergencies, on the Bacău–Brussels route. The flight departed on Saturday afternoon, at around 17:30, after the patients were collected from the Moldova region.

Throughout the entire flight, the critical condition of both patients was continuously monitored by a specialist medical team. The doctors providing emergency care on board came from several elite institutions within the Romanian healthcare system.

The transfer was carried out at the request of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), as the victims required highly specialised burn treatment available at advanced medical centres in Belgium. This inter-institutional collaboration ensured the patients' safe transport to medical facilities in Brussels.

Severe burn cases frequently require care at highly specialised centres equipped with the technology and medical expertise needed for such complex trauma. Romania regularly works with its European partners to secure the best available treatment for critically ill patients.
