The medical facility is in urgent need of dozens of doctors and hundreds of nurses, after numerous healthcare staff chose to leave at the beginning of the year due to austerity measures imposed on the public sector.
The staffing shortage comes as the hospital is facing a high volume of patients: last year, over 63,000 people presented themselves at the hospital's emergency admissions unit.
In total, hospital management estimates that approximately 1,000 new employees are needed; however, the positions remain frozen as a result of restrictive public sector hiring measures adopted at government level.
