Bucharest Hospitals Open Over Christmas – Information for Seniors and Families
Nine hospitals in the capital will provide emergency medical care during the 25–27 December period for unforeseen situations.

Over the winter holiday period, seniors and their families can rely on a functioning medical system across Bucharest. The Public Health Directorate has confirmed that nine medical units will remain operational on 25–27 December, providing emergency medical assistance for all categories of patients, including elderly people who may require unexpected medical care.
For older people, who frequently face acute health problems during the holiday season, this arrangement offers an important safeguard. Emergency services will be provided by specialist hospitals including Floreasca, Universitar, Sf. Pantelimon, Sf. Ioan and Bagdasar-Arseni, all of which have extensive experience treating conditions common in older age.
Medical units available for emergencies:
- Spitalul Clinic de Urgență București Floreasca (021/599.23.00)
- Spitalul Clinic de Urgență Universitar (021.318.05.23)
- Spitalul Clinic de Urgență Sf. Pantelimon (021/255.40.99)
- Spitalul Clinic de Urgență Sf. Ioan (021/334.51.90)
- Spitalul Clinic de Urgență Bagdasar-Arseni (021/334.30.25)
For specific medical needs, specialist units will also be in operation, including the Emergency Hospital for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Clinical Emergency Hospital for Ophthalmology — the latter being particularly important for seniors who frequently experience acute eye conditions.
The București-Ilfov Ambulance Service will maintain its normal schedule throughout the holiday period, ready to respond swiftly to calls from elderly people and their families. Specialist staff will also be available to issue death certificates across the capital — an essential service for bereaved families at this time of year.
In emergency situations, residents can call the single emergency number 112. For consultations or general information, the Bucharest Public Health Directorate operates a permanent on-call service on 0747.165.471 and 0722.659.492.
Recommendations for seniors and families: It is essential that older people keep these telephone numbers to hand and know the location of their nearest hospital. Families are also advised to monitor the health of their elderly relatives closely over the holidays, as emotional stress and disruptions to daily routine can trigger medical problems.
This arrangement reflects the public health system's commitment to providing continuous care even during the holiday season, offering peace of mind and security to seniors and their families throughout the capital.
