Dialysis Market in Romania: 1.6 Billion RON in Reimbursements and Three Major Private Players
17,000 Romanians undergo dialysis annually, with the state covering the full cost of treatment. Over 80% are treated at private centres, dominated by three major companies.

In Romania, approximately 17,000 people require dialysis each year to compensate for kidney function impaired by renal failure, according to data from the Romanian Renal Registry (RRR).
The state fully reimburses this treatment, and the National Health Insurance House has allocated a budget of 1.6 billion RON for the dialysis programme in 2026.
Although the treatment is funded from public finances, the majority of patients choose or end up being treated at private centres rather than state hospitals. According to information in the article, only around 17% of patients use public facilities, with the remaining 80% or more being treated at private clinics.
The private dialysis market is dominated by three major companies, which account for the largest share of centres, treatment sessions, and business activity in the sector: Fresenius Nephrocare, Diaverum, and Avitum.
