New regional hospital with 849 beds to be built in Cluj – investment of 1.79 billion RON

A new regional emergency hospital with 849 beds is to be built in Cluj-Napoca, after the construction contract was officially signed at the Victoria Palace. The total investment for this major project amounts to 1.79 billion RON excluding VAT.

The signing ceremony was attended by interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, interim Health Minister Cseke Attila, and the Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, all underlining the importance of this project for Transylvania's healthcare system.

The new medical facility will serve a wide region and provide high-quality healthcare services for all patients, including elderly people who require specialist and emergency care. With a capacity of 849 beds, it will be able to treat a large number of patients and ease the pressure on existing hospitals.

The completion deadline is set at three and a half years, meaning the hospital could become operational by 2028. This project represents one of the largest investments in medical infrastructure in Romania in recent years.

For seniors in the Cluj region and neighbouring counties, this hospital will mean faster access to emergency medical services and specialist treatments — a crucial consideration given that older people are frequent users of healthcare services and require complex, ongoing care.
