Ambulance from Bacău Stopped at a Watermelon Stall: Two Children Were in the Vehicle, Without Medical Supervision

The case of the ambulance from Bacău that stopped at a watermelon vendor during a call-out has new details, according to Realitatea PLUS. Initially, it was believed that only one child was on board, but the investigation established that there were in fact two minor patients, each accompanied by an adult. During the journey, the paramedic is reported to have remained in the driver's cab rather than in the patient compartment.

The Bacău County Ambulance Service has launched a disciplinary investigation to determine the responsibility of each employee involved.

The mother of one of the children filmed the stop

The case came to light after the mother of one of the minors filmed the moment the ambulance pulled over at a roadside vendor. The woman claims that the driver bought watermelons and other produce during the call-out: "He did as he pleased — he took whatever he wanted. He fancied some watermelon and picked up some vegetables as well. I think we were stopped for about ten minutes, because he was haggling with the vendor," she said.

According to the investigation, the two minor patients were not medically monitored during the journey.

One girl's condition reportedly deteriorated en route

The mother of one of the girls, aged one year and eleven months, says her child's condition worsened during the journey: the infant reportedly began vomiting severely and lost consciousness. The woman knocked on the partition separating the patient compartment from the front cab, and only then did the ambulance stop and the crew intervene.

"My child started vomiting very badly. I knocked on the partition, the ambulance stopped, and the crew got out. They told me to get out with the child, and I was struggling to clean her up and give her a sip of water. It took us nearly two hours to get from our place to Bacău," the mother recounted.

Disciplinary investigation under way

Checks are continuing to establish why the ambulance stopped during the call-out and why the two children were not medically supervised throughout the journey. The Bacău County Ambulance Service was also embroiled in a scandal approximately two months ago, when a teenager died in a school courtyard after the medical crew was reportedly dispatched late by the dispatcher.
