Public transport in Arad will cost just 1 RON per day from August

Starting in August, passengers using public transport in Arad will pay just 1 RON for a ticket valid for 24 hours. This represents the lowest urban transport fare in Romania and comes in response to rising fuel costs.

The decision by Arad's local council aims to encourage residents to give up their private cars and opt for public transport instead. This initiative is particularly beneficial for the city's elderly residents, who rely heavily on public transport for their daily journeys.

In addition to the 1 RON daily tickets, local authorities will also introduce monthly passes at significantly reduced prices — five times cheaper than current fares. This substantial reduction will have a positive impact on the budgets of pensioners and older people on low incomes.

For Arad's senior residents, this measure means improved access to healthcare services, shopping, and social activities. Nominally priced public transport will allow older people to maintain their independence and take an active part in community life without worrying about additional costs.

The initiative supports vulnerable groups in society, including low-income pensioners, who will be able to benefit from urban mobility at minimal cost. The measure is intended to serve as a model for other local authorities across the country regarding the accessibility of public transport.
