Romania Risks Losing PNRR Funds by August – Impact on Projects for Seniors
The Prime Minister warns that unfinished projects under the NRRP will lose their European funding, putting investments in health and social services at risk.

Romania faces a major risk of losing all European funding for projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) that are not completed by the end of August. The warning was issued by interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who stressed that this situation applies even to projects in advanced stages of implementation.
This critical situation could have a significant impact on investments aimed at improving health and social services for older people. Many of the PNRR projects focus on modernising medical infrastructure, developing home care services, and improving access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, including senior citizens.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that there are PNRR milestones that cannot be met for objective reasons, citing as an example the commitments to improve rail transport. Romania pledged to increase railway speeds and reduce delays, but these targets will not be met due to unfinished works and the failure to modernise locomotives.
To address this critical situation, the interim Prime Minister called emergency meetings with prefects and mayors from across the country. These meetings aim to identify solutions for accelerating project implementation and avoiding the loss of vital European funds for Romania's development.
The loss of these funds could seriously jeopardise plans to modernise the healthcare system and social services, with a direct impact on the quality of life for seniors and elderly people who depend on these improved services.
