Over 2,000 Jobs Lost in Bihor – Major Impact on Pensioners and Families
The dramatic drop in county employment is directly affecting the incomes of families supporting elderly relatives, as well as the retirement prospects of future pensioners.

The labour market in Bihor County is going through a difficult period, with direct repercussions for the elderly population and for families caring for senior relatives. Official statistics reveal a severe contraction in employment over the space of just one month.
According to data from the Territorial Labour Inspectorate, the number of active employees fell sharply from 162,287 at the end of October to just 160,175 at the end of November. This reduction of more than 2,000 jobs in a single month signals major economic difficulties for the county.
The situation is also deteriorating at employer level, with over 1,600 companies dropping off the active register, bringing the total down from 25,748 to 24,096. At the same time, individual employment contracts fell by nearly 3,100, reaching 183,592.
Impact on families with elderly relatives
This employment crisis is hitting particularly hard the families who care for elderly relatives. Job losses are reducing the financial capacity of these families to provide adequate care for their older members — from medicines and medical treatments through to specialist support services.
For the many seniors who depend on financial support from their children and grandchildren, this situation may mean a deterioration in quality of life and reduced access to essential health and care services.
Labour market specialists anticipate that the trend will continue at least until the end of the year. Among the companies affected is a car industry factory in Marghita that is considering making over 100 redundancies, and a hotel in Sânmartin that is planning to let around 50 employees go.
This situation underlines the importance of social support systems for seniors and the need for protective measures for vulnerable families caring for elderly relatives during a period of economic uncertainty.
