Important Changes to Tax Payments in Sector 1 – What Seniors Need to Know
From 1 January 2026, taxpayers in Sector 1 will pay their taxes directly at the Town Hall. The procedure is being simplified for the majority of payments.
Foto ilustrativăStarting in 2026, senior citizens and other taxpayers in Sector 1 of the capital will face an important administrative change regarding the payment of local taxes and charges. The new procedure eliminates the intermediary role of the General Directorate of Local Taxes and Charges, with payments being made directly to the Town Hall.
What changes for pensioners
For the majority of older residents who use online platforms such as ghiseul.ro or the sector's dedicated app, the transition will be imperceptible. The systems have already been updated to reflect the new procedures, so the payment process will remain just as straightforward.
The only area requiring particular attention is for seniors who make payments via internet banking or bank transfers. These residents must use the new Tax Identification Number (CUI) for Sector 1 Town Hall: 4505359. It is essential that older residents double-check this detail to avoid any issues when making payments.
Strict measures for neglected properties
Authorities have announced that from 2026 they will impose steep surcharges on the owners of 15 buildings deemed to be in a state of disrepair. The additional charge can reach up to 500% of the base tax and will remain in place until owners complete the necessary restoration works.
This measure may affect seniors who own properties in the central area of the sector, particularly those on limited incomes who cannot afford major renovation investments.
Current tax structure
For the current year, tax rates remain differentiated. Private individuals, including pensioners, pay between 0.08% and 0.2% on residential properties, depending on the property's value. Companies are subject to higher rates, which can reach 5% for non-residential buildings that have not been revalued within the past five years.
Seniors who settled their obligations in full by 31 March 2025 benefited from the traditional 10% discount — an important concession for pensioners on tight budgets.
For further clarification, older residents may contact the authorities via the email addresses provided: secretariat@impozitelocale1.ro and registratura@primarias1.ro. This reorganisation forms part of a broader strategy to streamline local public services.
