The Ministry of Labour has begun calculations for the indexation of pensions and salaries, which are expected to take effect from January next year. According to initial estimates, the pension increase could be between 6% and 8%.

This figure would be lower than the inflation recorded for pensioners in recent years, during which they received no indexation whatsoever. The final value of the increase has not yet been determined, according to information from Realitatea PLUS.

The Minister of Finance stated that pensions could be indexed; however, the final decision will depend on funds available in the budget and on the effects of the new pay legislation. In order for the budget deficit to continue to decrease, specialists believe the increase will be a modest one.

If indexation were set at 7%, the average pension of 2,821 RON would rise by approximately 197 RON. In that case, the average pension value would marginally exceed 3,000 RON.

At the same time, the authorities are also examining the possibility of further pay rises, with discussions focusing in particular on public sector employees. Any increases would likewise be determined through the new pay legislation, and the decision will take into account available financial resources and trends in state expenditure.
