Romania's pharmaceutical production exceeded 7 billion RON in 2025, with the top three players holding half the market

Romania's pharmaceutical manufacturing industry reached a turnover of over 7.3 billion RON in 2025, according to data from the Bridge to Information analytics platform. This represents nearly double the figure from 2018, when the sector's revenues did not exceed 4 billion RON.

There are currently 146 companies operating in Romania with pharmaceutical products and preparations manufacturing as their primary activity, two fewer than in 2024. Together, these companies employ approximately 10,000 people.

A market concentrated at the top

Zentiva București, which owns two factories – Terapia Cluj and Antibiotice Iași – alone generated approximately 3.8 billion RON in turnover in 2025, accounting for more than half of the entire local pharmaceutical industry's revenues.

Compared to 2018, the top three market players have consolidated their position: eight years ago, they collectively held nearly 40% of the market in which they operate, a share that has since grown.

Turnover and profit nearly doubled, headcount likewise

Although local pharmaceutical production has nearly doubled both its turnover and profit compared to 2018, the number of employees in the sector has remained relatively stable, ranging between 9,600 and 10,000 people.
