Pensioners share harsh testimonies about poverty: "The pension is gone within a few days"
Romanians interviewed by Realitatea PLUS describe how small pensions and daily price rises leave them with no money shortly after payday.
Foto ilustrativăMore and more Romanians, particularly pensioners, say they face a daily struggle due to low incomes and ever-rising prices. According to a Realitatea PLUS report, for many of them the money runs out just a few days after receiving their pension, as most of it goes towards bills and debts.
When asked about the reasons for their hardship, people speak openly about poverty. "Why do we struggle? Because there's poverty," said one of those interviewed.
Another pensioner explained how quickly the money disappears: "It's hard, it's very hard for pensioners, because the pension is small and prices go up every day. Debts, bills, things... The pension is gone within a few days."
Other respondents say that the lack of money forces them to limit themselves to the bare essentials. "People have no money anymore, there's no money left. They've made us poor, they've completely impoverished us," said another person, adding: "We're barely surviving, it's very hard."
Another interviewee summed up the situation in just a few words: "Hard times, little money, very little."
