Shortage of MMR vaccine in several counties: risk of measles epidemic rises

Romania faces a significant risk of a measles epidemic, after doses of the vaccine that protects against this disease went missing from the stocks of several counties. The situation makes it impossible to vaccinate children on time.

This is one of the essential vaccines in the national immunisation schedule, and its absence from the shelves has generated concern among the population.

According to GPs, when they requested new doses from the regional public health directorates, the response was the same everywhere: the vaccine is not available in stock.

To prevent the immunisation campaign from coming to a complete halt, the public health directorates have requested additional deliveries from the Ministry of Health. To date, the only response received has been a promise that new doses will arrive in the coming period.
