Florin Manole: pensions to increase in 2027, plus assistance of up to 500 RON in December

The Minister of Labour confirms pension indexation in 2027 (approximately 7.3%) and benefits of 300–500 RON in December. The minimum wage will be discussed in November.

Florin Manole: pensions to increase in 2027, plus assistance of up to 500 RON in December

The Minister of Labour, Florin Manole, stated on Saturday evening on Antena 3 CNN that he would submit a pension indexation proposal to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, based on the formula set out in law. A preliminary simulation indicates an increase of approximately 7.3%, with an estimated impact of 9.6 billion RON on the state budget, though the minister noted that these figures are not final.

Florin Manole ruled out the possibility of freezing pensions in 2027 and said that, for the time being, splitting the increase into several instalments is not being considered. "Pensions will be indexed, they will increase next year," he stated, adding that the ministry would support upholding pensioners' rights and the application of the legislation currently in force.

Financial support of 300–500 RON for pensioners in December

The minister explained that the financial support for pensioners will be paid alongside the December pension payment. The amounts represent half of those granted at the start of the year and will vary according to monthly income, as follows:

  • 500 RON for pensioners with incomes of up to 1,500 RON;
  • 400 RON for those with pensions between 1,501 and 2,000 RON;
  • 300 RON for those with pensions between 2,001 and 3,000 RON.

Minimum wage decision in November

Regarding a possible increase to the minimum wage, Manole said the decision will be made within the National Tripartite Council, which represents the Government, trade unions, and employers' organisations. Discussions are scheduled for November.

The minister noted that, in principle, the minimum wage could rise from 1 January 2027, though the governing programme provides for indexation over a 12-month period. A potential gross increase of 600 RON has also been publicly mooted, though Manole did not confirm this figure.

Unified pay legislation to resume in 2027

Florin Manole also announced that negotiations on the new unified pay legislation will resume at the beginning of next year, following the centralisation of salary data from public institutions. According to the minister, the new formula will not result in pay cuts, particularly for employees in Health and Education, with the objective being to address existing inequities within the public sector.
