What a liver operation involves: preparation and recovery

Liver surgery requires careful preparation beforehand, so that the medical team has a clear picture of the patient's general state of health and how their liver is functioning.

The pre-operative assessment stage may include blood tests, imaging investigations, and other tests, chosen according to the condition to be treated and the individual characteristics of each patient.

A mandatory step before the procedure is the pre-anaesthetic consultation. Depending on the case, doctors may also request additional evaluations, including a cardiology consultation.

After the operation, the patient remains under close medical supervision during the immediate post-operative period, and the recovery process continues thereafter, also under the monitoring of the medical team. Both the length of hospitalisation and the pace of recovery vary from case to case, depending on the type of procedure undergone and each patient's progress.

Further information about preparation for liver surgery and the post-operative period was provided by Dr. Ionuț Duduș, consultant general surgeon at Spitalul Clinic SANADOR.
