Health sector announces strike: unions warn of staff shortages in hospitals

Healthcare workers are warning of a possible strike amid austerity measures and salary changes announced by the authorities. Trade union representatives state that in several counties across the country, accident and emergency departments are currently staffed by a single doctor, and that cuts to allowances and income could deepen the staffing shortfall in hospitals.

Trade unions in the sector have scheduled a warning strike for 20 July and are announcing the possibility of a general strike from 28 July, should the course of the salary measures not change. Workers are calling on the authorities to abandon the reduction of allowances and to resume meaningful dialogue on the matter.

Meanwhile, military pensioners have launched legal proceedings against the introduction of a health contribution on pensions exceeding 3,000 RON. They are seeking the annulment of the measure, as well as the reimbursement of amounts already deducted from their pensions.

Against the backdrop of negotiations between trade unions and political stakeholders, discontent within the healthcare system remains high, with the possibility of further protests continuing.
