Foto ilustrativăMirabela Grădinaru took part in a debate organised at Cotroceni Palace on the role of general practitioners in the healthcare system. On this occasion, the president's life partner conveyed that the state needs sustained investment in prevention and in general practice, as well as concrete solutions to make this specialisation more attractive to young doctors.
Grădinaru drew attention to the fact that medical information currently circulates very rapidly, but not always accurately. She emphasised that health has become one of the fields most vulnerable to conspiracy theories, to individuals posing as specialists without the relevant qualifications, and to recommendations lacking any scientific basis. In her view, it is essential that the voice of doctors and specialists be supported more firmly, and that the public have access to greater health education and greater trust in science.
She also stated that few professions involve a level of responsibility, empathy, and capacity to change lives comparable to those found in medicine. Beyond professional training, Grădinaru noted, patients are acutely aware of the human dimension of medical care – trust. In difficult moments relating to their own health or that of their loved ones, people turn to doctors with hope, something she has experienced personally.
Speaking as a mother, Mirabela Grădinaru admitted that she knows how important the family doctor is in everyday life. When her children show a symptom that concerns her, or when she needs clarification regarding a course of treatment, the first call she makes is to the family's GP.
