3.2 billion RON collected in 7 months
The measure was initiated by the dismissed Government led by Ilie Bolojan, with the aim of generating additional revenue for the budget. In just seven months of implementation, the state has collected 3.2 billion RON from Romanians' pensions, a sum that represents nearly 7% of the national budget.
Although the tax was originally conceived as a temporary solution, valid only until 2027, the Government is now considering extending it. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has stated clearly that the additional taxation of pensions will continue to be applied.
Furthermore, a possible expansion of this tax is also under discussion, which would see it applied to pensions below 3,000 RON — a category that is currently not subject to the measure.
