Health: over 7,600 vacant hospital positions proposed for unblocking
The Ministry of Health proposes to open a competition for 7,621 vacant positions in public hospitals, including for doctors and nurses.

The Ministry of Health has drawn up a memorandum regarding the organisation of competitive recruitment for filling vacant posts in public healthcare facilities, a document that has already been submitted for approval. According to the institution, the aim of the measure is to strengthen hospital medical teams, reduce the pressure on employees already working within the system, and ensure continuity of care for patients.
How many posts and for whom
The memorandum proposes the unblocking of 7,621 vacant posts, distributed as follows:
- 1,910 posts for doctors;
- 2,955 posts for nurses;
- 2,261 posts for auxiliary healthcare personnel;
- 436 posts for other categories of higher-education medical and healthcare staff;
- 59 posts for research personnel.
The Ministry specifies that the document was drawn up on the basis of requests received from hospitals and an analysis of actual staffing requirements, with the aim of ensuring the efficient functioning of the healthcare system and responsible management of public funds.
What the interim Minister of Health has to say
The interim Minister of Health, Cseke Attila, emphasised the importance of completing medical teams: "A high-performing healthcare system needs dedicated professionals and complete medical teams. Without sufficient doctors, nurses, and medical staff, hospitals cannot operate at full capacity, and the pressure on those already working within the system continues to grow. Through this initiative, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting healthcare facilities and medical teams, so that patients receive quality medical services."
