Pensioners demand pension indexation in court and threaten mass lawsuits

An increasing number of pensioners in Romania are facing serious financial hardship, living from one month to the next. According to Realitatea PLUS, for many of them their pension no longer covers even essential expenses such as utility bills, medication, or everyday shopping.

Due to the increasingly difficult situation, some seniors are forced to borrow money from relatives or neighbours just to get through another month. The data cited shows that these loans sometimes reach as much as 400 RON, a sign of the dramatic decline in purchasing power caused by frozen incomes and rising taxes.

Dissatisfied with their ever more difficult living conditions, pensioners are taking the matter to court, demanding pension indexation and threatening mass lawsuits against the state. In this endeavour, Federația Omenia is offering support to Fundația pentru Apărarea Cetățenilor împotriva Abuzurilor Statului.

According to the data presented, nearly one million Romanians are living on just over 1,200 RON per month — a sum that is becoming increasingly difficult to manage in the current climate of rising prices and taxes.
