Nazare: A cautious increase in pensions from 1 January is possible
Acting Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare says that a cautious pension indexation from January 2027 is feasible, depending on the budget negotiated between the parties.

Alexandru Nazare, the interim Finance Minister, stated on Monday evening, after receiving a favourable opinion from the parliamentary committee for taking over the Finance portfolio in the Mureșan government, that an indexation of pensions from the very first month of next year could be considered, provided it remains a prudent one.
"I believe we can consider a prudent increase in pensions. A prudent indexation. From 1 January. But I am speaking of an indexation that is, I repeat, prudent. All these elements constitute the pillars of the future 2027 budget and of the inter-party negotiations on this budget, so that it may be adopted. Now is not the moment to enter into this technical discussion," said Nazare.
The official did not provide any further technical details, explaining that the discussion regarding a possible percentage or indexation mechanism falls within the scope of the budget negotiations still under way.
"I do not wish to enter into this discussion now because, out of respect for all the parties that must validate our trajectory in 2027 and beyond, it is not the moment for me to express a position on these matters," the interim Finance Minister further stated.
The remarks come in the context of Nazare having previously warned that 2027 could prove more challenging than 2026, owing to budgetary pressures related to pensions, wages, defence, and investment.
