Pensions could be increased starting January 2027, according to statements made by Minister Nazare. The Government has reportedly identified budgetary resources for an indexation of between 6% and 8%, which is lower than the 12% rate stipulated by law.

The announcement comes after two years during which pensions remained frozen — a period in which a pensioner on an average income accumulated losses of over 8,000 RON.

How much pensions would increase, by amount

Based on calculations for a 6–8% indexation, the estimated monthly increases would be as follows:

  • Pension of 2,000 RON → increase of 120–160 RON/month
  • Pension of 2,500 RON → increase of 150–200 RON/month
  • Pension of 3,000 RON → increase of 180–240 RON/month
  • Pension of 4,000 RON → increase of 240–320 RON/month
  • Pension of 5,000 RON → increase of 300–400 RON/month

For the average pension, the estimated increase is 167–223 RON per month.
