Europeans Most Affected by Energy Bills. Where Does Romania Rank

A ranking compiled by the International Energy Agency shows that European residents pay the highest energy bills in the world. The figures include expenditure on electricity, natural gas, home heating, and other fuels used in households, according to Realitatea PLUS.

The highest average bill per capita was recorded in Sweden, where a person spent nearly 2,000 dollars in 2025. Finland ranked second, with an average bill of almost 1,800 dollars, followed by Austria at 1,700 dollars per person.

România does not feature among the top ten countries in the ranking. For Romanian residents, the average bill per capita stood at 464 dollars in 2025, placing the country 34th in the ranking. Just below România is Bulgaria, where the average bill was 20 dollars lower, putting it in 35th place.

At the opposite end of the scale, with the lowest household energy costs, are countries in Asia, Africa, and South America, where costs are significantly below those recorded in Europe.
