The second instalment of the pensioners' aid, scheduled for December, but with budgetary uncertainties
Pensioners with incomes below 3,000 RON should receive the second instalment of financial assistance in December, but budgetary pressures are casting doubt on the payment.
Foto ilustrativăPensioners on low incomes are set to receive the second instalment of state financial aid in December 2026. The measure targets individuals whose pensions and pension-related income do not exceed 3,000 RON per month. However, one significant uncertainty remains: whether the Government will be able to identify the necessary funds within the budget to pay all eligible recipients, given the mounting pressures on public expenditure.
The support is paid in two instalments, and according to information published by the Bistrița-Năsăud County Pensions Office, payments have been scheduled for May and December 2026. The first instalment was already paid out during 2026.
How much pensioners receive, according to income
The amount of aid varies depending on recipients' monthly income level:
- 500 RON for pensioners with incomes of up to 1,500 RON;
- 400 RON for those with incomes between 1,501 and 2,000 RON;
- 300 RON for pensioners with incomes between 2,001 and 3,000 RON.
This is a sum paid separately from the monthly pension, designed to support people on lower incomes during periods of higher expenditure, such as the winter holiday season.
For example, a pensioner with a monthly income of 1,400 RON would receive aid of 500 RON — a considerable sum relative to their monthly income. Those with pensions of up to 2,000 RON would receive 400 RON, whilst those in the 2,001–3,000 RON bracket would receive 300 RON.
Why uncertainty surrounds the payment
Pressures on the state budget and the need to reduce public spending are fuelling doubts about whether all support measures will be maintained through to the end of the year. It remains unclear whether the Government will find the funds required to pay the second instalment to all eligible pensioners.
Who is eligible
The aid is intended for pensioners whose income falls within the maximum threshold of 3,000 RON, with the amount awarded decreasing the closer their income is to this ceiling. Payment is made in accordance with the conditions set out in the legislative acts governing the measure. The authorities clarify that this is financial support provided in instalments, not a permanent increase to the pension.
